I wrote this over a year ago. I have re-thought my answers and found that they largely remain the same today. I would only add that I am passionate about Advising Clients. It is my pleasure to talk with and advise business owner's on the basics and not so basics of their business's cash flow. Talking with my clients is the most valuable thing that I do.
Someone asked me a question today. Why do you do what you do? The question took me by surprise. It made me realize I had not stopped to think about the “why” of my chosen career. Why have I started my bookkeeping practice? HUM………..! After some thought, here is what I have discovered.
-
I love working with accounts. There is nothing more satisfying to me than showing a client their growth in black and white numbers.
-
In the vastness of Accounting, there are so many different tracks in accounting and bookkeeping that you can honestly study something new every day.
-
I adore organizing business and building a growth plan for clients.
-
I hate math! However, I love that Accounting is more about forensic investigations by using number puzzles.
I could go on and on but in truth. I love working at a Desk/Office. It should be no surprise that I am a bookkeeping business owner. Since middle school, I loved to sit behind my old childhood desk, with an unusable phone, a calculator, and a columnar book that I bugged my mom to buy. I had numerous fake businesses that run. I would “pretend for hours” that I ran my own business and did my accounting books. My career was fated.
I took a long way, starting in office, HR, and payroll management, before ending up in a Full-Charge bookkeeping role. As the question as to “why” I do what I do, well, I love it.
